Expertise: - Founder of DBS Law, Davinder started as a successful Personal Injury Solicitor at Rowley Ashworth and Thompsons and now oversees many elements of the company including Business Development and Client Relationship Management. He has a particular interest in Marketing and Media, and specializes in community service through DBS Heart.

Andrew Scott

Andrew Scott

Expertise:- Andrew is a member of the Law Society’s personal injury panel and APIL and has conducted a wide variety of personal injury and clinical negligence cases over many years and has a wealth of experience in general litigation work.

In the last 7 years Andrew has acquired and developed an expertise in all aspects of contested probate work ranging from challenging wills for lack of mental capacity, undue influence and lack of knowledge and approval, to making and defending claims for clients under the Inheritance Act.

Experience:- Andrew joined Andersons in 1990 becoming a partner in 1994 and a Director at DBS Andersons in October 2013.

Andrew has recovered large six figure sums for clients who have been injured during the birthing procedure and for a client whose broken neck was not diagnosed and properly treated. He also acted for one of the contractors in the Wembley Stadium litigation.

Interests:- Andrew is an avid tennis player and a member of his local club. When not on the tennis court, he enjoys skiing, attending the gym and playing golf.

Anthony Kay

Anthony Kay

Expertise:- Anthony specialises in employment law; advising national ‘household’ names to local businesses on organisational issues to everyday HR queries. I provide training on all aspects of employment law focusing on improving employment practices and manages a broad employment tribunal caseload.

Experience:- Anthony has over a decade of experience in providing specialist employment law advice. He has particular expertise in handling contentious employment tribunal matters and is relied upon by my clients to carry out my own advocacy. Cases have included successfully representing national pub chains, one of the UK’s largest retail bookmakers, a solicitor’s practice, local authorities, a multi-national brewer and one of Europe’s leading soft drinks companies.

In relation to transactional matters; Anthony has expertise in guiding clients through re-organisations by reason of TUPE or individual/collective redundancy and have also advised on public to private sector transfers.

The Legal 500 commented in 2011: “Household names in the leisure industry, as well as smaller businesses, benefit from the exceptional service, depth of knowledge, accuracy of advice and excellent value for money available from Anthony Kay” and in 2012 he was recommended as an “Excellent Communicator”; and recommended in 2013 “Nothing is too much trouble for Anthony Kay, who is noted for conducting his own advocacy in complex claims‘. Vicky Blodwell

Vicky Blodwell

Expertise: - Vicky deals with a variety of serious personal injury cases involving claims arising out of road traffic accidents, accidents at work and in public places. She is a Team Leader, supervising 5 other members of the personal injury department. Vicky was appointed as an Associate Director in September 2012.

Experience: - Vicky commenced her legal career at Russell Jones and Walker and qualified upon joining DBS Law. Vicky also holds her Higher Rights of Audience. Vicky’s most notable cases include reaching a settlement of behalf of a lady walking across a pedestrian crossing when she was struck. The Defendant was convicted of driving without due care and attention and had her licence suspended for 3 months. The Claimant went on to develop chronic pain syndrome requiring significant medical investigation. The matter settled in the sum of £335,000 which includes a sum for care and assistance for the rest of her life. Most recently, Vicky settled a claim on behalf of a poultry farmer who suffered horrific injuries on his way to work when the Defendant fell asleep at the wheel. The Claimant was compensated for a life time’s loss of earnings and care and assistance.

Jonathan Haigh

Jonathan Haigh

Expertise: - Jonathan is a qualified Chartered Accountant and also an Associate of the Chartered Insurance Institute.

Experience: - Before joining DBS Law he spent 17 years working in an accountancy practice in Birmingham, providing audit, accountancy and taxation services to an extensive range of clients, with Legal firms being his speciality. Jonathan is responsible for overseeing the accounts department and maintaining budgetary control for the company. He aims to ensure that all staff members within the department are given the opportunity to gain excellent knowledge and expertise.

Interests: - Jonathan is a keen sailor and can be found on the water racing dinghies most weekends. He is also a RYA dinghy instructor teaching both adults and children to sail.

Faizal Essat

Faizal Essat

Expertise: – Faizal is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives and has gone on to secure advocacy rights and has also qualified as a Legal Executive Advocate. His experience is principally in litigation and has handled large value complex litigation claims. He was also the Head of Litigation at the Leicestershire County Council where he undertook litigation and advisory work at local government level. Faizal also worked as Head of Legal in industry where he advised on all aspects of commercial agreements and dispute resolution issues arising out of trademarks and intellectual property issues.

Experience:- Faizal acted on a group personal injury claim acting for seven claimants who were injured following exposure to the Legionella bacteria. The range of injuries amongst claimants varied and the total damages secured in total exceeded £1 million.

Faizal has also undertaken industrial disease claims and has also successfully secured damages for clients injured by exposure to asbestos. Some of the damages have been recovered for British-based claimants in the USA where Faizal worked alongside American lawyers.

In respect of non-personal injury related claims, Faizal acted for a local authority in the Technologies and Construction Court in respect of a contract dispute and the Council were faced with a claim which was valued at £40 million. This was a complex dispute and Faizal worked with a leading QC and junior counsel in dealing with the various issues and also conducted mediation meetings and advised the executive management committee of the local authority. The claim was successfully defended.

In addition to the legal work that Faizal undertakes as part of his work he also commits a significant amount of time in undertaking pro bono and advisory work in the community. He has received various national awards and was voted pro bono lawyer of the year by the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives and was also the inaugural winner of the DLA Paul Nicholls Memorial Foundation Award for excellence in Pro Bono work.

Interests: – Faizal has a keen interest in following rugby and cricket. He is an avid supporter of the Leicester Tigers and follows the Indian Premier League with great interest. He also plays golf whenever he can but admits that time is often an issue. Faizal is also a keen cook and has a real interest in Indian cuisine and often helps his brother-in-law who operates a commercial kitchen cooking for parties and weddings.

Angela Fitzpatrick

Angela Fitzpatrick

Expertise: - Angela Fitzpatrick is the Head of Department at DBS Law. Angela is a personal injury Lawyer with over 20 years experience representing injured Claimants and their families. Her practice encompasses all aspects of Personal Injury claims specialising in high value serious injury claims including spinal injuries, amputees, brain injury, fatal accidents, occupational disease in particular Mesothelioma claims.

For 22 years (13 years as a Partner) at a National Claimant Law firm she represented Trade Union and Staff Association members pursuing a wide variety of Personal Injury claims. Gursharan Bunger

Gursharan Bunger

Expertise: - Gursharan qualified as a Solicitor in 2002 and specialises in Private Client Law. Gursharan’s expertise within this discipline include the Administration of Estates (Probate), making Wills, Tax planning, Trusts and administration of the same, Lasting Powers of Attorneys, Deputyship Applications and Elderly Client advice.

Experience: - Gursharan has 11 years of experience in private client work and has represented a large variety of Clients, from those in a High Street firm to high net worth clients in large city firms. Gursharan enjoys dealing with complex Probate matters which have been complicated by mentally incapacitated executors/beneficiaries or those which involve contentious issues. Gursharan had dealt with a number of complex high net worth matters which have often proven difficult and has brought such matters to a successful conclusion. Gursharan holds a free weekly legal surgery at a Temple in Wolverhampton where she has developed some excellent links with members of the community.

Dawn White

Farhat Akbar

Experience: - Farhat qualified as a solicitor in 1998 and has over sixteen years of experience in family law. She has dealt with a broad range of family law issues: divorce, civil partnership disputes and separation, financial disputes between married couples, disputes between parents over children’s issues, financial disputes between cohabitants, pre-nuptial and post-separation agreements, and protection for victims of domestic abuse.

Farhat has undertaken many high profile cases in the High Court, Family Division, concerning wardship , tracing a child’s whereabouts, child abduction to countries which are members of the Hague Convention and child abduction to non-Hague Convention countries. She has conducted complex cases for financial remedies between married couples in medium to high net worth cases, and represented the wife in the Court of Appeal in the reported case of Kaur v Matharu [2010] EWCA Civ 930

A notable area of her expertise is advising on financial settlements where the matrimonial assets include business and pension assets or where property assets have been transferred to third parties, requiring these dispositions to be set aside to ensure a fair settlement for both parties.

Angela Maxfield

Angela Maxfield

Kristel is the Team Leader and Chair of DBS Law’s niche Greek Desk providing legal solutions to the Greek and Cypriot communities.

Experience: - Kristel has a number of years’ experience in the property field and has represented a large number of individuals and lenders. Whilst training, Kristel was awarded the Law Society Trainee Solicitor of the Year award  in 2007, and subsequently written articles for several newspapers and lectured at the University she attended, highlighting the difficulties law students can face in trying to secure a training contract and not to give up. Kristel has been providing residential legal advice for over 7 years and has always delivered a high level of service with a clear focus on the best interests of the client. Interests: - Joe is a keen sports fan, and an avid Manchester City supporter. He also enjoys travelling, eating out, socialising with friends and going to the theatre.

Tamara Dhesi

Expertise: - Tamara has over nine years of experience in conveyancing.  Starting out in the commercial property department of a local firm in Derby, Tamara gained invaluable experience in not only conveyancing but also company commercial. Tamara has great knowledge and experience in many types of property transactions. Having also worked for a volume conveyancing firm, she has developed good working relations with estate agents nationwide, and has obtained many referrals by providing an efficient and courteous service to both estate agents and clients.

Sarah Begley

Sarah Begley

Expertise: - Sarah specialises in employment law and is competent in advising employees and businesses alike in relation to their employment law issues. Sarah is skilled in matters of HR support as well as contentious Employment Tribunal work.

Experience: - Sarah has over 6 years’ experience of specialist employment law advice. She undertook her training contract at a firm in Coventry and ‘cut her teeth’ doing predominantly Claimant work. From the very outset of her training, she undertook such cases from start to finish including the advocacy stage in the Employment Tribunal. Sarah achieved a number of successful results that were reported upon in the local press.

In more recent years, Sarah has expanded her experience to include Respondent work and has now built up a number of trusted clients who are keen to retain Sarah as their go-to employment law adviser. Sarah has also developed her skills in the non-contentious side of employment law such as drafting contracts, policies/procedures, and post-termination restrictions.

In 2009, Sarah was shortlisted in the category of Assistant Solicitor of the Year for the Birmingham Law Society Legal Awards.
