Davinder S Bal

Davinder S Bal

Davinder Bal started his career as a successful Personal Injury Solicitor at Rowley Ashworth and Thompsons before founding DBS Law.  He now oversees many elements of the company, including Business Development and Client Relationship Management, with a keen eye on Marketing and Media within the company. His flagship CSR programme, DBS Heart was established in more recent years, developing along with DBS Law’s community-driven ethos to become a Community Interest Company in its own right.

Davinder has a strong belief in investing in DBS Law’s employees and clients, and this focus has led to DBS Law being repeatedly awarded Legal 500 status, as well as being listed in the Sunday Times Top 100 Companies To Work For. Further investment in client service, which is central to DBS Law’s company culture, led it to become the first law firm to be awarded the Customer Service Excellence Award from the Government’s Cabinet Office in 2014. Putting the client’s needs first, Davinder ensures that DBS Law provides clear advise and an individually tailored service suited to each client’s budget and requirements.

Davinder has a keen interest in client led legal services and has carried out pro-bono work with the Sikh Channel Community, broadcast internationally. He enjoys nature, rowing, and getting involved in numerous community service projects with the aim of connecting businesses and the communities they serve.

Jonathan Haigh

Jonathan Haigh

Jonathan is a Non-Executive Director with DBS Law. A qualified Chartered Accountant, Jonathan is also an Associate of the Chartered Insurance Institute.

Before joining DBS Law he spent 17 years working in an accountancy practice in Birmingham, providing audit, accountancy and taxation services to an extensive range of clients, with Legal firms being his speciality. He was previously Head of the Accounts Department, responsible for overseeing the firm’s accounts and maintaining budgetary control for the company. He aims to ensure that all staff members within the department are given the opportunity to gain excellent knowledge and expertise.

Outside of DBS Law, Jonathan is a keen sailor and can be found on the water racing dinghies most weekends. He is also a RYA dinghy instructor teaching both adults and children to sail.

Dawn White

Dawn White

Dawn is an Associate Director at DBS Law, who leads the Private Client team at DBS Law’s Nottingham office. She has a strong commitment to client care ensuring all clients receive a friendly, attentive and professional service whilst providing a tailored solution to a particular client’s circumstance.

Dawn believes strongly that elderly clients should receive appropriate advice and care and is also a Dignity Champion who believes that being treated with dignity is a basic human right, not an optional extra.

Alongside being a Member of Solicitors for the Elderly, Dawn has previously won the Derby Young Lawyer Skills Triathlon in 2006. She is an affiliate member of STEP (the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners) and has recently been shortlisted for Midlands Rising Star at the Forward Ladies Women in Business Awards.

Dawn has become fully involved with DBS Heart, becoming Chair and Ambassador of KidsOut in Nottingham. She led the new event committee which raised over £17,000 at its first event in June 2015.

Outside of DBS Law, Dawn is mum to a 6 year old boy, and enjoys fishing, reading and cooking.

Gursharan Bunger

Gursharan Bunger

Gursharan specialises in Private Client law, specialising in handling the Administration of Estates (Probate), making Wills, Tax planning, Trusts and administration of the same, Lasting Powers of Attorneys, Deputyship Applications and Elderly Client advice.

She qualified as a Solicitor in 2002 and has over 11 years of experience in the Private Client field. In this time she has represented a wide variety of clients, from high street firms to large city firms. Gursharan enjoys handling complex probate matters, particularly those which have been complicated by mentally incapacitated executors and beneficiaries, or  those involving contentious issues. Gursharan had dealt with a number of complex high net worth matters which have often proven difficult and has brought such matters to a successful conclusion.

She holds a free weekly legal surgery at a Temple in Wolverhampton where she has developed some excellent links with members of the community. Gursharan also has links with a number of local organisations, including charitable partnerships with residential homes for the elderly. She provides pro-bono advice to residents and members of the local community. 

Outside of DBS Law, Gursharan enjoys going to the gym and Latin dancing.

Louise Johal

Louise Johal

Louise is an Associate Director at DBS Law heading up the Commercial Litigation department in the East and West Midlands. Louise has many years of experience in complex and wide ranging litigation matters.

She strives to reach a swift, practical and commercially viable solution in a cost effective manner for her business clients.

Her particular areas of expertise are:-

  • Contractual disputes including claims on the issue of satisfactory quality, fitness for purpose and/or late delivery,
  • Insolvency and bankruptcy,
  • Debt recovery,
  • Miss-selling claims and bank litigation,
  • Enforcement and defence of post termination restrictive covenants,
  • Professional negligence,
  • Intellectual property including copyright infringement and passing off claims,
  • Landlord and tenant disputes,
  • Shareholder and Partnership disputes,
  • Director disqualification proceedings and personal liability of directors,
  • Restoration of companies.

In her free time Louise enjoys interval training, rock music and travel.

Harjeet Singh

Harjeet Singh

Harry is the Head of IT at DBS Law. He graduated in Bachelors and Master level qualifications in Information Technology, and has since applied his skills to the continual improvement of DBS Law’s IT systems. Harry has a wide knowledge of the latest Microsoft Technologies, including Virtualisation and Failover Clustering.

He has developed solid core IT infrastructure skills in planning, designing, developing and maintaining complete IT & Telecommunications structures for small and medium businesses. He is responsible for providing a reliable, cost effective, secure and performing IT environment, to enable the company to assist its staff in providing clients with an excellent service.

Recently, he has worked on major improvements to DBS Law’s IT system, with remote access which facilitates more flexible working arrangements for DBS Law staff.

Harry is passionate about IT and Support, as well as being fluent in English, Punjabi, and Hindi.

Vicky Blodwell

Vicky Blodwell

Vicky holds a multi-faceted position as a Director, Head of Legal Practice as and Complaints Handling Director at DBS Law. 

She is a serious injury specialist, who has had great success in dealing with claims arising from road traffic accidents as well as accidents at work and in public places. Vicky prides herself on offering practical advice which is easy to understand. Her approach to clients centres on empathy, with a focus upon clients’ rehab needs at early stages to ensure that interim payments are provided to help them rebuild their lives. She is conscious of the bigger picture and works to ensure that clients’ families are not overlooked.

Vicky began her legal career at Russell Jones and Walker and qualified upon joining DBS Law. She also holds her Higher Rights of Audience. She was appointed as a Director in 2013.

Her most notable cases include reaching a settlement for a woman who developed Chronic Pain Syndrome after she was hit by a car. The matter settled at the sum of £335,000, which covered care and assistant for the rest of the client’s life. More recent cases have included settling a claim for a lady who had been knocked down outside a petrol station after she sustained facial injuries and fractures to the leg, arm and back. The client was left unable to work again, and with Vicky’s help was able to gain a six-figure settlement of £318,000. She has also been praised recently for her successful settlement of a hit-and-run case, in which the client sustained multiple fractures and dental injuries, in the sum of £115,000.

Kristel Georgeou

Kristel Georgeou

Expertise: - Kristel is a qualified solicitor who specialises in residential property law. Kristel possesses extensive knowledge in dealing with all sorts of property transactions, from sales and purchases, transfers of equity, remortgages, purchases of land, auction pack preparation, purchase at auction, lease extensions, registration of legal charges, grants of new leases, right to buy, auction pack review, purchase of freehold interest and shared ownership.

Kristel is the Team Leader and Chair of DBS Law’s niche Greek Desk providing legal solutions to the Greek and Cypriot communities.

Experience: - Kristel has a number of years’ experience in the property field and has represented a large number of individuals and lenders. Whilst training, Kristel was awarded the Law Society Trainee Solicitor of the Year award  in 2007, and subsequently written articles for several newspapers and lectured at the University she attended, highlighting the difficulties law students can face in trying to secure a training contract and not to give up. Kristel has been providing residential legal advice for over 7 years and has always delivered a high level of service with a clear focus on the best interests of the client. Kristel adds value to the service provided by expertly accommodating the needs of lenders and estate agents in a professional manner. Kristel continues to be recommended by clients, estate agents and mortgage providers and feedback from clients is unanimously positive.

Interests: - Outside of work Kristel enjoys music, travelling and interior design, motoring and good food.

Leighann Richards

Leighann Richards

Expertise: - Leighann is a Commercial Property lawyer with experience of acting for a range of property clients from private individuals, investors, retail clients, to industrial landlords, mixed use developers and clients in the healthcare sector. She advises on all aspects of commercial property including all matters connected with the management of clients real estate portfolio, including a mixture of new leases and lease renewals, conditional contracts, agreements for lease and pre-lets, acquisition and disposal work of all types of freehold and leasehold property.

Experience: - Leighann has experience in acting for banks in relation to secured lending, investor clients and developers as well as providing assistance in corporate transactions. She also has a wealth of experience in dealing with the acquisition, disposals and relocation of retail pharmacies and many other types of businesses.

Leighann joined the Commercial Property department at DBS Law Limited in February 2015 after leaving Enoch Evans LLP where she worked as a Senior Solicitor since qualifying as a Solicitor in 2004.

Interests: - Outside of work Leighann enjoys going to music festivals, camping (weather permitting) and spending time with her family and friends.

Fiona Moore

Fiona Moore

Fiona is a Commercial and Residential Property solicitor with over 15 years experience.

Fiona has worked for small family run firms and large city centre practices as head of department meaning that she has expertise in handling a wide range of matters from private individuals, landlords, tenants, investors and companies, including purchasing commercial property through pension schemes, auction properties, agricultural and land sales as well as option agreements.

Fiona’s interests in the field of property law are predominately concerning business development and the IT infrastructure and digital development of the property law field, particularly relating to streamlining the conveyancing process.

Away from her desk, Fiona spends time with her son and twin daughters and has recently taken up horse riding, leading to her sitting on a horse welfare charity’s committee.

Neeru Karra

Neeru Karra

Neeru is a Solicitor currently working in our Residential Property department. She studied at the University of Birmingham and completed her Graduate Diploma in Law and Legal Practice Course at the College of Law in 2008. Neeru has previously worked for our Dispute Resolution and Personal Injury department, and has accrued a great deal of experience in each of these areas.

Neeru’s highlight has been being the first person to issue and settle a case under Stage 3 of the Rapid Claim Portal at Birmingham County Court. She has also worked on tourism projects in Ghana to help create and promote alternative income generating schemes and encourage eco-tourism in the area. Neeru has a keen interest in charity work, and has been involved in a number of DBS Heart projects, including work with the Prince’s Trust, the Clock On To Safety Campaign and the Walkathon and Legal Walk, as well as teaching English in Kenya.

Neeru enjoys attending the gym and keeping active, travelling and volunteering.

Yvonne Field

Yvonne Field

Yvonne is a member of our Wills and Probate department. With 25 years experience in the Private Client field, Yvonne‘s wealth of knowledge allows her to treat every case with care and attention. Her experience comes from working in a high street practice mainly specialising in Wills & Probate, Lasting Powers of Attorney, Court of Protection, Severance of Joint Tenancy, Declaration of Trusts, and Deeds of Variation. She prides herself on putting her clients first, and offers a very friendly and understanding service to all. Yvonne knows that dealing with bereavement can be a very difficult time and she prides herself in establishing long standing relationships with clients.

Yvonne enjoys volunteering, and has previously worked for a number of years offering free clinics at her local Age UK, which proved to be very rewarding and successful. Outside of work, she enjoys going on holiday, football, and most of all spending time with her grandchildren.

Helen Shaw

Helen Shaw

Helen is a consultant in our Family Law department with a wide range of experience in matters covering divorce, finances (including high net worth and business interests), Children Disputes, Same-sex marriage, Civil Partnerships, and pre-and-post-nuputual matters. She qualified in 1993, since which she has accrued experience in Family Law at a number of firms before joining DBS Law.

She is a qualified mediator and member of Resolution, an organisation of family law professionals working to promote constructive and non-confrontational approaches to dispute resolution. She has a strong interest in charity work and has undertaken a number of voluntary roles with charities supporting people with mental health issues. 

Outside of work, Helen enjoys keeping fit and singing as part of Lace City, an award-winning Barbershop chorus. Recently her group took part in an international competition in L.A., achieving the highest score a British Chorus has ever achieved.

Joe Price

Expertise: - Joe has joined DBS Andersons as a Trainee Solicitor in our Commercial Property department.

Experience: - Joe graduated from Nottingham Trent University with a 1st Class LLB (Hons.) in Law with Business and achieved a Distinction on the Legal Practice Course at Nottingham Law School. Prior to joining DBS Andersons, Joe worked as a Commercial Property Paralegal at Geldards LLP.

Interests: - Joe is a keen sports fan, and an avid Manchester City supporter. He also enjoys travelling, eating out, socialising with friends and going to the theatre.

Kimberley Tucker

Kimberley Tucker

Kimberley is a Trainee Solicitor in our Property Department based in our Bearwood office. She studied LLB Law with Business Studies followed by her Legal Practice course at Staffordshire University before starting work at a law firm in Kidderminster. Since joining DBS Law, she has gained a wealth of experience in Property matters and client service, which she feels is central to good legal practice. 

Outside of DBS Law, she enjoys swimming and cooking, as well as being a qualified Brownie Guider for Girlguiding UK.

Tamara Dhesi

Tamara Dhesi

Tamara is a paralegal in our Nottingham-based Property team. She has over nine years of experience in conveyancing, after starting out in the commercial property department of a local firm in Derby. She has gained invaluable experience in not only conveyancing but also company commercial. Tamara has great knowledge and experience in many types of property transactions. Having also worked for a volume conveyancing firm, she has developed good working relations with estate agents nationwide, and has gained many referrals by providing an efficient and courteous service to both estate agents and clients.

With many years’ in the conveyancing field, working on numerous types of transactions, including the Government’s Help to Buy scheme, Tamara is able to empathise and reassure clients of what is actually happening with one of the most important transaction in their lives.

Tamara loves spending time with her family and getting lost a in a good book – John Grisham and Jo Nesbo are her favourite authors. She tries to stay fit by attending the gym as often as possible and mainly works on cardio activities.

Michelle Chapman

Michelle Chapman

Michelle is a Trainee Solicitor in the Private Client department, dealing with Wills, Lasting Powers of Attorney, Trusts, and Probate matters. She graduated from the University of Leicester with a 2.1 before traveling for a year through Australia and South-East Asia, working with The Public Trustee of Queensland along the way. On her return, she joined DBS Law as a Paralegal, and was invited to start her training contract with the firm in September 2015.

Michelle has a keen interest in fundraising through DBS Heart, and has undertaken a number of charity events and schemes, including Legacy fundraising projects with charities such as Nottinghamshire Hospice and Leicester Animal Aid. She sits on the East Midlands KidsOut charity board, and has helped organise legal information seminars on topics such as Sharia Wills. Michelle takes charity partnerships very seriously.

Outside of DBS Law, Michelle enjoys travelling and is a certified PADI driver.

Kashifa Hussain

Kashifa Hussain

Kashifa is part of our Property Department based in our Birmingham office, paving the way to making legal services easily accessible to all through 158 Premium Property Services.

Having completed an Honours degree in Law, she continued her studies and achieved a Masters in International Law, gaining a commendation in her LPC from Birmingham College of Law.

She has several years experience of conveyancing after starting out as an assistant in a small local firm; she has since gained experience in high volume legal work for major developers including David Wilson, Bellway, and Redrow Homes, and Assistant Manager of the New Build Department at her previous firm, working on behalf of purchasers of new build plots. 

Kashifa takes great pride in her work, committed to providing the highest level of customer care. She says, Our clients trust us to look after them and keep their best interests at heart. With that in mind I value that trust and aim to achieve the highest standards of both advice and client care.’

Outside of DBS, she enjoys drawing and painting, as well as visiting art galleries and exhibitions, and baking. She is enthusiastic about charity work, supporting the Motor Neurone Disease charity in campaigns to raise awareness and funds.

Faizal Essat

Faizal Essat

Faizal is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives and has gone on to secure advocacy rights and has also qualified as a Legal Executive Advocate. His experience is principally in litigation and has handled large value complex litigation claims. He was also the Head of Litigation at the Leicestershire County Council where he undertook litigation and advisory work at local government level. Faizal also worked as Head of Legal in industry where he advised on all aspects of commercial agreements and dispute resolution issues arising out of trademarks and intellectual property issues.

Faizal acted on a group personal injury claim acting for seven claimants who were injured following exposure to the Legionella bacteria. The range of injuries amongst claimants varied and the total damages secured in total exceeded £1 million.

Faizal has also undertaken industrial disease claims and has also successfully secured damages for clients injured by exposure to asbestos. Some of the damages have been recovered for British-based claimants in the USA where Faizal worked alongside American lawyers.

In respect of non-personal injury related claims, Faizal acted for a local authority in the Technologies and Construction Court in respect of a contract dispute and the Council were faced with a claim which was valued at £40 million. This was a complex dispute and Faizal worked with a leading QC and junior counsel in dealing with the various issues and also conducted mediation meetings and advised the executive management committee of the local authority. The claim was successfully defended.

In addition to the legal work that Faizal undertakes as part of his work he also commits a significant amount of time in undertaking pro bono and advisory work in the community. He has received various national awards and was voted pro bono lawyer of the year by the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives and was also the inaugural winner of the DLA Paul Nicholls Memorial Foundation Award for excellence in Pro Bono work.

Faizal has a keen interest in following rugby and cricket. He is an avid supporter of the Leicester Tigers and follows the Indian Premier League with great interest. He also plays golf whenever he can but admits that time is often an issue. Faizal is also a keen cook and has a real interest in Indian cuisine and often helps his brother-in-law who operates a commercial kitchen cooking for parties and weddings.
